ABOUT US

RefugeeYouth is a small youth-led charity organisation based in South London dedicated to supporting young people aged 14-21 from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

Using creative arts and participatory action we connect with our young people and facilitate the exploration of the issues that most affect them, including the many significant and practical challenges navigating through complex and alien systems in the UK can bring about.

Our activities include visual arts, film making, dance, drama and theatre, as well as a variety of sports and group discussions. We also organise short residential trips outside of London to provide opportunity to our young people to explore deeper themes, make collective decisions, plan future projects, bond with one another and engage with new experiences.

Through our work we strive to increase the resilience, self esteem and emotional wellbeing of our young people as well as help build their confidence and reduce feelings of isolation. We achieve this mainly through building and maintaining a sense of community and social connection that exists both on and offline. We also encourage our young people to take leadership and ownership over the many different activities we organise. All of our projects are co-designed and delivered with our young people who have the opportunity to get involved with everything from planning sessions all the way through to evaluating them.

Ultimately, our mission is to create an inclusive environment and safe space that nurtures friendship, creative learning and belonging where young refugees and migrants can gain strength, a sense of empowerment and build on their mental and emotional fortitude, both collectively and as individuals. We believe that by encouraging and supporting our young people this way that they can move on to live happily, healthily and to their full potential.
