CURRENT PROJECTS

APOW

Co-designed with our young people, APOW (which stands for Amazing People of the World) is a creative social community based in the heart of Croydon. The programme consists of weekly sessions in which the young people can come together to build a sense of belonging and develop new friendships. It provides a regular space for young people who are newly arrived in the UK, most of whom are here without family.

Our mission is to create a positive and inclusive culture where we can all feel a sense of community and togetherness, feel supported, and get inspired. Young people are encouraged to plan sessions and take on leadership roles, growing in confidence and skills throughout their time with APOW.

We use different creative arts in our participatory programme because it helps to build confidence, improves verbal language skills and encourages positive social skills.  Providing a space for young people of different backgrounds to meet and develop friendships encourages integration into wider society and reduces feelings of isolation.

The aim of our creative activities is for young people to be able to:

  • learn from each other and our diverse cultures
  • uplift themselves & each other and enjoy working together to learn new skills
  • learn what is available for them in the community and build social networks
  • develop confidence, social skills, teamwork and leadership skills

We are proud of the fact that APOW is a genuine place of family, friendship and mutual respect among young people.
